11/11/17 My First step onto Indian soil. A whirlwind adventure to work with a prestigious textile manufacturer, supplying from high-street retailers to world renowned UK and worldwide interior textile companies. A scary but exciting leap into my career. India was everything and more, a complete assault on the senses, overwhelming and heartwarming. Every day was inspiring, the smells, the sights, the extremities in differencing culture. An experience I will forever hold close to my heart and be forever grateful for.
I worked in a studio of 17, with 5 other girls from the UK. working from 10am-7pm, 6 days a week, more often than not extra hours to work to deadlines - long days but so worth it! Creating collections from archived artworks, colour ways, re-colouring, design boards, bespoke artworks and seamless repeats were amongst the daily duties. Receiving prints back from the factory was like Christmas morning- I was always so excited to open the package to see the designs come to life on fabric. A huge learning curve, though only working for a short period I had learnt more than I could ever imagine and became competent in my new and renewed skill set.
I had a fabulous bunch of ladies to call my friends and my time in India wouldn't have been so loved without them (Thank you). We worked hard and we played hard - experiencing everything from nerve wracking rickshaw rides, strenuous days at work, culture, new foods to getting lost in outer slums and partying on the 36th floor of the St.Regis.
A truly fabulous adventure, one I never wished to end.
Upon returning I am filled with inspiration for new artwork... new collections to appear soon!
